STEERING CABLE ADAPTERS:  When replacing the originally installed rotary helm unit which is different from a Morse 290 helm with either a Morse 290 helm or an autopilot straight shaft drive  it is usually possible to re-use the original steering cable.  The most popular types of rotary steering cable can be adapted to connect with the Morse 290 helm or drive unit.  Note that when replacing a “RACK” type helm a new rotary steering cable must ALWAYS be fitted.
